INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS

     “Biochemistry and Molecular Biology”, a scientific journal issued by the Institute of Biochemistry of Biologically Active Compounds of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (hereinafter referred to as Biochemistry and Molecular Biology), publishes original articles on topical problems in the fields of biochemistry, biochemical aspects of molecular biology, bioorganic chemistry, microbiology, immunology, physiology and biomedical sciences, as well as chronicles of scientific events and anniversaries. The manuscript must not have been published elsewhere and must not be under consideration by another journal. The languages of the manuscripts are Belarusian, Russian and English.  The papers will be peer-reviewed.

     In its editorial policy, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology adheres to the guidelines of international associations such as the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), Council of Science Editors (CSE), International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), European Association of Science Editors (EASE) as well as the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Belarus.

     The manuscript will be rejected if it does not conform to the following instructions for preparation.

1. The text of the manuscript should be typed single-spaced using the Microsoft Word Editor with Times New Roman font, 14 pt text size. No hyphenation is used. The left text margins should be 3-cm wide, the top and bottom margins –

2-cm wide and the width of the right margins is 1.5 cm. Please indent each paragraph of the text 1 cm and align it to the width. All pages must be numbered.

2. The volume of the manuscript should not exceed 14 pages (14,000 characters with spaces), with the number of pages being 10 pages (including figures, tables and references) in an original article and 15 pages in scientific reviews and lectures.
3. The manuscript should have the universal decimal classification (UDC) code and contain such structural sections as Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Conclusion/s, Acknowledgements (acknowledgment of funding or any other support to research, specifying the grant numbers) and References. Please indicate the absence of conflicts of interests: “We declare no conflicts of interest”.      
4. The title of the article, which should not exceed 10 to 5 unabbreviated words, is followed by the information about the author’s (authors’) first name, surname and affiliation with indication of the city and country. The information about the author/authors should be arranged as follows: the full last and the first names of each author, the authors’ titles, positions, and affiliations with postal and e-mail addresses.
5.    The abstract (1500 characters with spaces) summarizing research results must be comprehensible even when excerpted from the main text. It should contain a brief description of the background of the study, as well as its goals, the materials and methods used, the results obtained and conclusion. Please supply keywords (5-9) and the personal identifier code (ORCID, Open Researcher and Contributor ID).
6. The Material and Methods section should contain a detailed description of the equipment and techniques used as well as the criteria for choice of animals and recruitment of patients and their division into groups, clinical features of patients, age- and sex-matched if required for the study. The experimental design and the applied reagents and drugs with their international non-proprietary names, as well as the doses and routes of administration should be specified. Methods of clinical trials and techniques of experimental research  must also be described with indication of their compliance with the principles of experimental or clinical bioethics. The authors should specify in the text the name and affiliation of the committee as well as the date and the number of the minutes of the meeting which approved the protocol of the study. In case of the absence of such information, the editors have the right to demand it from the authors.
7. References in tables and figures contained in the main text should be in numerical order according to where the item is cited. Titles of the tables and figure legends should not contain abbreviations. If the figures have been published elsewhere, the original source must be cited. Please supply a written permission for replication from the publishing rights holder. Figures should be supplied as separate files (tif, jpg) with the resolution of at least 300 dpi.
8. When formatting the reference list, please follow the editorial style guidelines which are in conformity with the requirements of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Belarus for dissertations (order No 156 of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Belarus as of June 25, 2014 (as amended by the order No 206 of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Belarus as of August 9, 2016). The cited references should be within square brackets and in serial numbers according to where the item is cited in the text (e.g., [1 ] ). References to unpublished works are not permitted. The reference list should mainly contain recent works published within the last 5-7 years, except for rare and highly informative works. It is not recommended to refer to the abstracts of conferences and meetings, textbooks, educational and methodological guides, reference books, unpublished works, manuscripts, abstracts of dissertations or dissertations themselves.
9. The reference list should be in Latin script (References). The bibliographic description is formatted according to the National Library of Medicine standard (http:///www.nim.nih.gov/citingmedicine). The titles of articles published in languages other than English should be given in their original language. The title of an article published in Cyrillic script must be transliterated (http://translit.net) and then its English title (if there is an official translation) within square brackets must be given. No abbreviations of the titles of the Russian-language journals are permitted. Foreign journal titles may be abbreviated according to the style of the MEDLINE title catalog (https://www.ncbi.nim.nih.gov/nlm/nimcatalog/journals). If the journal is not indexed in the MEDLINE, its full title should be given. The description of an article should include the surnames and initials of all the authors. The references to articles bearing a DOI number must contain the correct numbers and be cited at the end of the reference.
10. A submitted article should be accompanied by a cover letter (the sample is given below) signed by the head of the institution where the research was done and an expert conclusion on the possibility of its publication in the open press. If the article describes the results of a part of the dissertation research, this should be also specified in the cover letter.
11. Please submit two hard copies of the article, signed by all the authors, and the accompanying documents to the editorial office (Editorial Office of the journal “Biochemistry and Molecular Biology”, Institute of Biochemistry of Biologically Active Compounds of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Ploshchad Tyzengauza, 7, Grodno, 230009, Republic of Belarus). Please also supply a digital copy of the article bearing the name of the first author and marked with the “journal article” at journal@ibiochemistry.by .
12. Articles submitted are reviewed both by the members of the editorial board and invited reviewers. Only the papers that receive a positive review are published. If detailed responses to reviewer’s comments are needed, the article is sent back to the authors. The revised copy of the article and the responses are sent back to the editorial office for further scrutiny. The date of receipt of revised articles is considered to be the date the editors receive the final version of the manuscript.
13. The editors reserve the rights to edit articles and shorten them. Plagiarizm manuscripts are rejected without further consideration. The publication of articles is free. Authors can also pay publication fees (bank transfer) in agreement with the editors.
14. Articles can be considered for publication only upon receiving a journal subscription receipt. Advertising articles and other types of advertising information are published after prepayment.
