In June of 2013, Grodno hosted the international symposium entitled “The Biological Functions of Pantothenic Acid. Pantothenic Acid and the Brain. New Opportunities for Metabolic and Dietetic Therapies” with the participation of well-known scientists in the field of pantothenic acid and CoA from the USA, Poland, the Russian Federation and Ukraine. The symposium participants noted the high level of research carried out at the Institute of Biochemistry of Biologically Active Compounds under the supervision of the Corresponding Member A.G. Moiseenok and emphasized the necessity of coordination of these studies with the European project TIRCON (Treat Iron-Related Childhood-Onset Neurodegeneration). Attention was drawn to undoubted pathogenetic role of the CoA system in the mechanisms of neurodegeneration and neuroprotection and high efficacy of D-panthenol substance in prevention and correction of CNS ischemic damage.
