The Council of Young Scientists (CYS) of the State Enterprise “Institute of Biochemistry of Biologically Active Compounds of the NAS of Belarus” was established with the aim to enhance the role and responsibility of young scientists in formation of scientific policy, development of research potential, overcoming negative tendencies in the age structure of the scientific community and implementation of real integration of science and education.
The notion of young scientists implies a group of research workers, postgraduate students and doctoral candidates at the Institute, technical and engineering employees and other specialists with higher education up to 35 years old. At present there are 20 scientists on the staff of the Institute of Biochemistry of Biologically Active Compounds of the NAS of Belarus.
The aim of the CYS activities: assistance in realization of professional, intellectual, legal and social and living interests and rights of young scientists contributing to their professional promotion.
Main directions and tasks of the CYS activities
development of creative and scientific potential of young people, promotion of their professional growth and active participation of young scientists in fundamental and applied research;
assistance in integration of science and education;
motivating university students receiving education in life sciences to carry out scientific research at the Institute;
promotion of professional growth and active involvement of young scientists in fundamental and applied research and grant programs of the Academy and different foundations;
arrangement of information support for young scientists, providing information about foundations, grants, conferences, schools and other events in support of young scientific community;
assistance in publishing of proceedings of conferences and workshops for young researchers, as well as monographs and other scientific and popular science works of young scientists;
support of development of scientific and cultural relations with participation of young scientists;
aid in rewarding of young scientists’ representatives;
promotion of innovative projects for young scientists and development of scientific contacts with representatives of the Council of Young Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences, higher education establishments and research centers, including foreign organizations;
arrangement and delivering of touristic, sporting and cultural events;
representing interests of young scientists at state, scientific, non-governmental and other organizations.
Basic directions of young scientists’ research
1. Studies of molecular mechanisms of diseases of the liver, cardiovascular and endocrine systems associated with exposures to toxic factors, stress, alcohol abuse and deficiency of essential micronutrients.
2. Investigation of chemical composition, metabolism, mechanisms and pharmacological properties of natural biologically active substances.
3. Development of novel drugs, design of new vitamin preparations and nutraceutics.
