Profile in eLibrary
The main directions of scientific research of the sector:
- fundamental and applied research in biochemistry and molecular biology;
- development of modern technologies for diagnosing regimens, duration and prescription of alcohol consumption using biochemical markers to solve the problems of expert and medical practice;
- study of the mechanisms of influence of physical factors on biochemical processes in the body in normal and pathological conditions;
- screening of substances of natural origin as promising means for the treatment of metabolic violation;
- studies on animal cell cultures (release, cultivation, directed differentiation of stem cells, systematic assessment of the biological properties of medicinal substances);
- molecular genetic studies (expression, gene polymorphisms, PCR diagnostics).
Methodological possibilities
- spectrophotometric and spectrofluorimetric methods;
- analysis of activity of a wide range of enzymes, concentration of substrates, analysis of antioxidant protection;
- bioenergy research;
- polymerase chain reaction (PCR) studies of gene expression and Western blot analysis of proteins;
- performing ELISA studies;
- research and testing on cell cultures;
- HPLC, chromato-mass spectrometry.
Bioenergetics and mitochondrial parameters
- isolation of MCh by methods of differential centrifugation, or in Percoll density gradients;
- determination of mitochondrial respiration parameters on a polarograph (basal respiration, substrate respiration, ADP-stimulated, uncoupled, in the presence of pore inhibitors, determination of respiratory control, ADP/O);
- measuring the rate of ROS/peroxide production by the method with AmplexRed;
- determination of the membrane potential of mitochondria in various metabolic states;
- measuring the functioning of the MPTP pore;
- measurement of the activity of MX enzymes of the TCA (succinate dehydrogenase, malate dehydrogenase, isocitrate dehydrogenase, aconitase-2, 2-oxoglutarate dehydrogenase);
- study of the functioning of electron transport chain complexes (I-V complexes);
- study of the antioxidant system МХ (SH-groups, glutathione peroxidase, -reductase, catalase, products of lipid peroxidation and oxidative modification of proteins, SOD-Mn, SOD-Cu/Zn);
- semi-quantitative assessment of mitochondrial DNA damage.
