Vivarium (experimental biological clinic) is a structural subdivision of the Institute of Biochemistry of Biologically Active Compounds of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The vivarium is located in a separate building and is equipped with equipment for animal care (Sanitary and hygienic conclusion on compliance with the requirements of sanitary rules and norms 2.1.2.12-18-2006 "Arrangement, equipment and maintenance of experimental biological clinics (vivariums)".

The functional areas of the vivarium include a quarantine block, rooms for breeding and keeping animals, an operating room, experimental rooms, a washing and sterilization block, engineering rooms, a system of sanitary checkpoints, storage rooms for storing feed, bedding material and consumables, a feed kitchen, and amenity rooms. .

Main line of business:

  • breeding and maintenance of linear laboratory animals used in research, research and production and educational activities. The capacity of the vivarium allows keeping the following types of laboratory animals: mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits (on request).

The vivarium has and constantly maintains 4 inbred lines of mice (BALB/c, C57BL/6, CBA, Af) and 1 outbred line of rats (Wistar), guinea pigs. The vivarium is replenished with laboratory animals from specialized nurseries; for each batch of animals, a veterinary certificate of infectious well-being is obtained. Mice (BALB/c, CBA, C57BL/6) and rats (Wistar) were purchased from a nursery and maintained at the Institute of Biochemistry of Biologically Active Compounds of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus over the past 20 years.

At the Institute of Biochemistry of Biologically Active Compounds of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, a Commission on Bioethics has been established and operates, which reviews and monitors compliance with the norms of humane treatment of laboratory animals in accordance with national and international standards for the quality of planning and conducting research on animals.

The vivarium can provide laboratory animals (rats, mice, guinea pigs) for research purposes, as well as premises for research and testing to organizations and enterprises.
