Vivarium (experimental biological clinic) is a structural subdivision of the Institute of Biochemistry of Biologically Active Compounds of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
The vivarium is located in a separate building and is equipped with equipment for animal care (Sanitary and hygienic conclusion on compliance with the requirements of sanitary rules and norms 2.1.2.12-18-2006 "Arrangement, equipment and maintenance of experimental biological clinics (vivariums)".
The functional areas of the vivarium include a quarantine block, rooms for breeding and keeping animals, an operating room, experimental rooms, a washing and sterilization block, engineering rooms, a system of sanitary checkpoints, storage rooms for storing feed, bedding material and consumables, a feed kitchen, and amenity rooms. .
Main line of business:
The vivarium has and constantly maintains 4 inbred lines of mice (BALB/c, C57BL/6, CBA, Af) and 1 outbred line of rats (Wistar), guinea pigs. The vivarium is replenished with laboratory animals from specialized nurseries; for each batch of animals, a veterinary certificate of infectious well-being is obtained. Mice (BALB/c, CBA, C57BL/6) and rats (Wistar) were purchased from a nursery and maintained at the Institute of Biochemistry of Biologically Active Compounds of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus over the past 20 years.
At the Institute of Biochemistry of Biologically Active Compounds of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, a Commission on Bioethics has been established and operates, which reviews and monitors compliance with the norms of humane treatment of laboratory animals in accordance with national and international standards for the quality of planning and conducting research on animals.
The vivarium can provide laboratory animals (rats, mice, guinea pigs) for research purposes, as well as premises for research and testing to organizations and enterprises.
ANIMALS
Rats of the Wistar line (outbred)
Coat color: white, albino.
Area of use: toxicology, nutrition, oncology, hematology, aging, teratology, infectious diseases, general purposes.
Af mice (inbred)
Coat color: white, albino.
Area of use: high-cancer line, characterized by the development of spontaneous tumors of the lungs and body.
Mice line C57BL/6 (inbred)
Coat color: black.
Area of use: as physiological and pathological models, diseases of the cardiovascular system, developmental biology, endocrine diseases, hematology, immunology, neurobiology, etc.
Guinea pigs
Area of use: specific types of toxicity, model diseases associated with a hyperreactive immune response, as physiological and pathological models.
Akomis
Acomys (Acomys cahirinus) - Cairo mouse.
Model for the study of regenerative abilities. Body length: 7-13 cm, tail: 6-13 cm.
